Fushigi Yuu Yuu Hakusho

Opening Theme: Yo ga Akeru Mae ni [Before the Day Breaks]

*M dare-mo jama dekinai*

[Yuusuke is unhooking Keiko's hair from the rough edge of the bookshelf, his arms reaching around her to do so. They are surrounded by threatening dark silhouettes that vanish one by one as he releases her tress until by the end of the line, the silhouttes are gone and the hair free]

*Kiss o uketomete*

[And then he turns his head and kisses her. The screen slowly zooms in on them.  Title: 'Fushigi Yuu Yuu Hakusho' as background screen fades to black]

*Ai dake o*

[Keiko is drawn/blown backward, screaming, into a vortex of murky scarlet clouds]

*tashikametai motto*

[She ceases to scream. Hotohori appears on her left and slides an arm about her waist, and Tasuki appears on her right and slings an arm round her shoulders. Then Nuriko pops up from behind her and gleefully throws his arms around Keiko's neck; Yuusuke's worried face is superimposed over the screen]

*Yo ga akeru mae ni*

[Keiko sits by the window of her rooms in the palace, wearing the ancient Chinese version of nightwear, gazing out at the predawn twilight.  The camera follows her gaze to reveal that the dimmed stars all seem to be forming constellations of Yuusuke — The Yuusuke Wielding Reigun, The Yuusuke Slammed Into Wall, The Toushin-Yuusuke Petting Puu (cf. end of manga vol. #16), The Yuusuke Picking Himself Back Up With *Another* Shirt Ruined, The Yuusuke Grinning Cockily, etc.]

*Aoi yoru no hikari*

[The southern portion of the sky, that in which the Suzaku seishuku are located.  Suddenly, the seven asterism are connected by lines of reddish light.. For a moment, silhouttes of the shichiseichi, black against the dark blue sky and bright stars, appear each in their own constellation and then disappear]

*subete tsutsumikonde iru*

[Slowly, the head of Tamahome rises from the bottom of the screen, overlaid on this sky; her hair-tails are waving slowly in an invisible breeze. She is on such a scale that at the end of her motion her head and shoulders fill the screen, hair still waving]

*Hoshi o mi-ageteru dake*

[The screen suddenly pulls back and around, revealing that Tamahome was standing in the palace grounds before it shows Hotohori, standing in a loose robe on the engawa, looking up at the stars. Nuriko, in a similar robe with her braid hanging down her back, comes up behind him, reaching out to touch him and then thinking better of it]

*Kitto*

[Tamahome throwing her three coins through the air, her character glowing]

*omou yori mo*

[Hotohori swings his sword in the pattern of a kata; cut to Nuriko punching a pillar, and the entire pillar cracking and crumbling]

*zutto*

[Tasuki activating his tessen]

*watashi no kokoro wa*

[From the right side of the screen, Chichiri brings down his shakujou. From the left, Mitsukake extends his left hand, glowing green with healing power; in front of them, Chiriko (popping up from the bottom) reads from a lo-o-ong scroll, the end of which spills up out of his hands and onto the floor. Tama-neko daintily walks onto it and sits down on the end as Chiriko expresses shock and the other two laugh]

*Atsui omoi de*

[Mie Guan practicing her katas and throwing kunai in the courtyard; she is apparently a devotee of coup de vitesse. Cut to Chuan Guan going over the accounts in a small room, a frown on her hatchet-face]

*ippai na no ni*

[Bao Guan sits next to Mon'yuu on the engawa. She slo-o-o-wly tilts sideways until her head is resting on his shoulder; Mon'yuu looks surprised and shocked but not displeased]

*Hitotsu dake*

[Keiko, Tamahome, and Nuriko are sitting seiza on large square cushions; Keiko in the middle, Tamahome on her right, and Nuriko on the right of the screen.  The three ladies (loosely speaking)  have their hands crossed over their hearts]

*negai ga todoku nara*

[The three smile as they slowly and elegantly lower and extend their upturned palms to a position directly above their knees and directly before their navels. In each set of slighttly-cupped hands, a valentine heart of red light hovers]

*Kokoro tsutaete*

[The three push the hearts out from them, as one pushes a balloon; Keiko is a little slower than the other two.  They fly right into the screen, so that first a smirking Tasuki in Tamahome's and a serious Hotohori in Nuriko's can be seen. Then Keiko's fills the screen; within its depths, she and Yuusuke are having a water fight]

*M daremo*
[Hikitsu and Tomite slowly pulling away from each other (deliberately copied from Lantis and Eagle during the second MKR 2 opening, except that the Gembu Seishi are not giving each other those tragic longing looks)]

*jama dekinai*

[The Crown Prince lashes out with a jeweled dagger and then whirls off the side; behind him the Emperor is sitting on his throne laughing]

*Tsuyoku dakishimete*

[Keiko in her Suzaku-summoning robes and toushin-Yuusuke in ripped jeans run into each other's arms, embracing so tightly as to seem to be attempting to occupy the same locus in space and time]

*Kokoro made*

[Keiko's arms are extended over her head, as a similar but much larger heart of red light forms between her hands. Then she spreads them, letting it shoot up out of the screen —]

*tsuresatte*

[ — and out of the book Yuusuke's reading, knocking him flat as a worried Botan leans over him]

*issho ni*

[Yuusuke gets up (with Botan's help) and tucks the book under his arm, beginning to run with a determined expression on his face]

*Yo ga akeru mae ni*

[Yuusuke, Botan, Kuwabara, Shizuru, Kurama, Hiei, and Yukina run through the streets of Tokyo in the dim grey light of predawn. Over where the sky is growing gradually lighter, a giant Keiko can be seen in the sky (like the giant Koenma in Episode 5 of YYH)]

[During the little instrumental coda, Keiko and the Suzaku shichiseishi appear in a diet copy of the original Fushigi Yuugi ending, except that Miaka is replaced by Keiko, the old Tamahome by the new, the haughty Yui by Yuusuke reading the book, and Nakago's face by that of the Emperor of Kounan.]
